- In the scene after the opening credits, the cartoon that is playing on television is The Jetsons.
- Whilst on the psychiatrist's couch, Brian says "You know I've never been to Europe?" This is probably a reference to the exact same line stated by Lily Tomlin's character in the 1984 movie All Of Me.
- Whilst on the psychiatrist's couch, Brian recounts a dream he had had the previous evening, in which he is concerned about his mortality. This was based on the film Logan's Run, which shows a society where everyone's life is ended at the age of 21. A person's age is shown by their handflower, which turns color at the appropriate moment. Brian is taking the part of a "Runner" attempting to escape his termination, having reached the critical age. Having been cornered by the guards, he points at Snoopy, remarking that he must be in his fifties.
- Charles Lindbergh is shown with his baby on the toilet who gets flushed down the toilet. This is a joke against the 1932 kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby. He is later alerted that "Amelia saw it happen" pointing to Amelia Earheart. He then says "You let me handle it..." which references to the mysterious disappearance of Amelia Earheart.
- Bob Barker is shown on the Price is Right saying "Remember to help control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered." This is a common phrase Barker says at the end of each Price is Right show.
- Whilst in a truck driving in the countryside, Brian runs over writer Dean Koontz, supposed competitor to writer Stephen King. This references Stephen King's accident in 1999 when he was hit by a minivan.
- The opening scene of the episode references Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, a long running American children's television series that was created and hosted by Fred Rogers.
