Dr. Hartman is the Griffin family's doctor, despite displaying a high level of incompetence in most episodes. He has a nephew, who is most likely a small child.
Dr. Hartman's and Carter Pewterschmidt's voices are nearly identical, which has been mentioned several times on the DVD audio commentaries. The similarity is shown and discussed in Believe It or Not, Joe's Walking on Air
Dr. Hartman was named after Seth MacFarlane's good friend and fellow animator, Butch Hartman. In "Death is a Bitch". Where he tells Peter he is fine which Peter takes as an advance by the doctor, Lois assuming that the doctor means that he is medically fine corrects Peter. Doctor Hartman asks can't it be both?. Dr.Hartman was also fired from his job in the episode Stewie Loves Lois whe he did a prostate exam on Peter but was accused of raping him, but he got it back at the end of the episode.
