- Stewie's remark about Wheaties once having nuts is a reference to Bruce Jenner's sex change.
- After Quagmire's flashback Cleveland says "There must have been some other song you've heard." Quagmire says "Yeah there was, that 'There's something happening here' song" which is the opening line of For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield.
- The ending of the 1973 segment parodies that of the film musical version of Hair and the feature song "The Flesh Failures (Let the Sunshine In)".[5]
- John McCain's imprisonment and torture at the hands of the Viet Cong is referenced in "Let His Son Die".
