The Lord of the Rings is a fantasy epic film trilogy, based on a trilogy of novels written by J.R.R. Tolkien. The first film, The Fellowship of the Ring was directed by Peter Jackson and was released on December 19, 2001. In 2002, and 2003, Jackson released the next two sequels. The final film, Return of the King, was nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, and won all 11.[1] Tolkien's prequel, The Hobbit is also adapted by Jackson.
Quagmire imagines himself as Aragorn and Joan the maid as Arwen when first meeting her in "I Take Thee Quagmire".
In "Sibling Rivalry", Sauron appeared in a cutaway as the Eye looking for his contact lens and worrying that he'll get in trouble if he cannot find it.
The fight between Gandalf and the Balrog is parodied in "Petergeist". A tree comes alive and tries to eat Chris, but Herbert saves him and fights the tree while free-falling. In the DVD extended version, they both survive the fall and become friends.
Seamus shows Peter a map of Middle-Earth as part of a poster joke in "Stewie Loves Lois".
Chris points out a plot hole to Carl while working at the Quahog Mini-Mart in "Movin' Out (Brian's Song)".
A parody of Return of the King is shown in the open credits in "Road to the Multiverse", with Stewie as Gollum and Brian as Frodo Baggins.
The lighting of the beacons scene is parodied in "Tiegs for Two".
In "Brian the Closer", Peter becomes obsessed with Brian's old rope toy and started acting like Gollum, even calling the toy, "Precious."
In "The Dating Game", Quagmire calls the Sun "Yellow Face", like Gollum does in the novel of The Two Towers, the second book in the trilogy.[2]
