Mittens was Thelma Griffin's cat. When she dies in "Mom's the Word", during the eulogy at her funeral, Peter relays that her wishes were to be buried with her cat so he has Mittens put down. The vet delivers Mittens during the eulogy and is instructed to place it in the casket with Thelma.
