  • The episode was originally titled "Jesus Christ!" until the network complained about the reference to the use of Jesus' name as profanity according to the DVD commentary. The new title still refers to using the names as profanity.
  • This episode was originally scheduled to air on December 16, 2012, but was canceled the previous Friday without official word from FOX. A report does cite sensitive content in the wake of a tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.[1] FOX had previously pulled the hurricane-themed "Seahorse Seashell Party" immediately before airing due to tornadoes in the Southern United States.
  • This is the third Christmas episode of Family Guy, after "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas" and "Road to the North Pole".
  • Stewie reprises his role as Baby Jesus from the nativity reenactment in "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas".

  • When Brian calls the story of the Nativity fiction, Stewie calls attention to the fact that Jesus lived with them for about a week.
  • Chris believes that Peter is about to launch into another Star Wars story.
  • Peter calls Jesus' conception the Immaculate Conception; that term actually refers to the conception of Mary without original sin.
  • Peter talks about "that new Oedipus play"; Oedipus the King was already over 400 years old.
  • The song that plays during the Ben Him & Ben Her is Electric Light Orchestra's "Don't Bring Me Down".
  • Peter plays with Cherry Chevapravatdumrong's name in the credits to make it say "Chemotherapy Vanguard vcr" although Lois points out there is a leftover "R". The DVD commentary reported this joke was a holdover from a previous episode.
  • According to the DVD commentary, the episode was originally intended to be more of an anthology with the bible story only taking up a single act. A telling of A Christmas Carol read by Marlee Matlin and a parody of the Bob Hope Christmas specials starring Peter as Bob were the other stories.
