Rupert is a stuffed teddy bear as well as Stewie's personal confidant. Stewie confides all his secrets and annihilistic machinations in Rupert, and often gets upset when Rupert does not respond. Rupert has also been known to double as a pistol when needed.
Rupert's sexuality is as clear as Stewie's. Stewie had several times referred to him as gay. It often chooses to watch the boys (especially that steward, the one that looks like Tab Hunter) as opposed to something Stewie has told him to, much to Stewie's chagrin. Apparently, Stewie sees him as an athletic man with a teddy bear's head.
Being so close to Stewie made it perhaps the only one that won't be dead when Stewie takes over, and the only one who knows his plans. Rupert was injured at least three times: When Stewie argued with Brian about the economy and Brian decided to eat one of Rupert's legs; Stewie got the leg back after a while. Another injury he had involved an unfamiliar dog Stewie and itself encountered in a playground. Rupert was torn to shreds but was fixed later on by Lois. It also seems that when Rupert doubles as a gun, his head needs to be ripped off, and Lois seems to fix that by the next scene in the episode. Also, in Season 3's "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas", Stewie tears Rupert in two, after waking up from a Santa Claus-themed nightmare.In the episode The Man With Two Brians, he is humped by New Brian for two hours. 8 Simple Rules for Buying My Teenage Daughter had the creation of "Stewpert", a being where Stewie's DNA was fused with Rupert's body after Stewie activated his teleportation device before he realized Rupert was inside, in reference to Brundlefly of The Fly.
Rupert's name can come from many origins [1], but given the show's long-running tradition of poking fun at the FOX network, Rupert likely refers to Rupert Murdoch, the media mogul owner and chairman of FOX parent company News Corporation. His name may also be a reference to the popular book and cartoon character Rupert, also a bear.
