- The title is a reference to a song from the 1960 Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie.
- The original title "An American Dog in Paris", is a reference to both the 1951 film An American in Paris, and Paris Hilton's sex tape 1 Night in Paris. In this original script Paris Hilton would fulfill the Lauren Conrad role of the celebrity socialite reality television star that would become Brian Griffin's girlfriend.
- When Derek heals the waiter's elbow, he does it in a similar way to the way Mr. Miyagi heals injuries in the original Karate Kid film.
- The scene in which Lauren Conrad shows Brian her bio-molecular research is an almost exact replica of the scene in the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan in which Dr. Carol Marcus presents Phase Two of the Genesis project including similar music.
- The hat Stewie wears when on the set with Brian and Lauren is the hat Eliza Doolittle wears in My Fair Lady.
- Lauren states that America elected Bush, who is "not a smart person", twice. Brian then replies by saying "once." This is a reference to Al Gore's popular vote triumph over Bush in the 2000 presidential election while losing the electoral college.[1]
