- Peter recalls how he helped Luke Skywalker by taking the place of Han Solo’s tauntaun (a reference to Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back).
- Brian, Stewie, and Jasper are watching Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.
- Glenn Quagmire sings the chorus to Ross Bagdasarian’s famous song Witch Doctor after declining to sign Brian’s petition (according to the DVD commentary, Seth MacFarlane refers to this joke as a “$10,000 joke,” since that’s how much it cost him to use the song).
- When Lois realizes she’s been brainwashed by her family, a cutaway shows Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped from her bedroom on June 5, 2002. She was found 8 months later March 12, 2003 a few miles from her home in Sandy, Utah in the company of two homeless adults, Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Ileen Barzee, back with her family.
- When the priest shows the video about homosexuals to Lois, it says it was made by Pat Robertson Industries; this is a reference to Pat Robertson, the American evangelist who often spoke against gay rights (according to the DVD commentary, FOX Standards and Practices wanted Seth and co. to add the “Pat Robertson Industries” line so FOX wouldn’t be accused of being against homosexuality).
- The creature that comes out of the person and attacks the doctor is a reference to the Alien movies. The man the creature burst from, “Mr. Braga,” was named for Brannon Braga by executive producer David A. Goodman, who worked under Braga on Star Trek: Enterprise.
- Peter mentions 'Supermarket Sweep'. 'Supermarket Sweep' was a game show set in grocery stores where the contestants would answer grocery related questions and unscramble words and then run around madly inside a store grabbing merchandise at random.
- Popeye is shown in Dr. Hartman's office. He was a comic strip character that later was shown in many cartoons and a movie of the same name.
- Stewie calls Jasper 'McButt the Crime Dog'. It's a take off from McGruff the Crime Dog whose motto is "Take A Bite Out Of Crime"
- In the scene in which Brian holds Mayor Adam West hostage, he says "go on, get out of here!" to the guard. This is possibly a reference to the scene in the 80s movie Real Genius in which Dr. Hathaway says the same thing to a dog that walks on his property.
